Wile Carding Mill is the only survivor of an early industrial park that included seven small workplaces. From 1860 to 1968, this water-powered mill lightened the workload for Nova Scotian farm families by carding a week’s worth of wool in one hour! See the very machine that revolutionized carding in the area and imagine the clatter as it prepared wool for bedding and spinning. Step outside and picture the line of ox carts that would wait patiently as women operators processed loads of sheep fleece. Wile Carding Mill’s overshot waterwheel still turns in its tranquil setting on Sandy Brook,

Westcote Bell Pottery was established in 1983 in a small rural village South of London, England. Co-founders Vaughan Smith and Jacqueline M. Cohen are a husband and wife team. They both taught school for 5 years until they returned to the United States in 1985. Their move to Mansfield, Ohio, where they set up a new studio lasted two years. Jacqueline then started a masters program at Ohio State University in Columbus. Vaughan set up a new studio in German Village, Columbus , Ohio. Their new studio thrived and expanded, they sold through 100 galleries and museums, while exhibiting in craft shows across the Eastern United States. In 1994 they moved to a small rural village called High Falls in New York State, 90 miles north of Manhattan. They moved into a 200 year old Eyebrow colonial and built a studio/gallery. After 14 years the gallery and studio have been expanded to include a separate kiln building to house a large gas kiln, and there are now three showrooms. The original showroom displays the functional tableware and gifts, Jacqueline has a separate showroom to display her paintings and children’s book illustrations, the third is for the sinks, tiles and mirrors.
