A trip through this area west of Highway #103 and south of the LaHave River will offer a scenic glimpse into the pastoral life of rural Nova Scotia. Originally settled by the French, Dutch and Germans, descendants still work the land on farms and woodlots. Communities in this region are Wileville, Chelsea, Molega Lake, Bakers Settlement, Hebbs Cross and Branch LaHave. Driving through you’ll get a sense of the “old home” traditions and genuine welcome of people who are proud of their roots and their community. Keep an eye out for teams of red-coloured oxen in their majestic and musical adornments – powerful, gentle and hard-working, just like the people who inhabit this area.
