Before beginning your walk on beautiful Fort Point, imagine that today’s date is May 8, 1604. Look southwest across Dublin Bay toward the Atlantic Ocean. Beyond the islands you may see the good ship Le Don de Dieu as it drops anchor for the first time in the New World. DesBrisay Museum

DesBrisay Museum

Location: Town of Bridgewater

While visiting the south shore, you will want to include a visit to DesBrisay Museum. Learn about Bridgewater’s growth as a lumber town, and the terrible fire of 1899 that nearly destroyed it.  Explore the First Nations Gallery with its famous porcupine quill cradle, and learn more about Mi’kmaq culture.  Appreciate folk art from Lunenburg County artisans; and discover some of the oddities collected by Judge Mather Byles DesBrisay in the late 1800’s.  The research centre is a valuable resource for genealogists and historians, and the gift shop carries a good selection of books on the local area. Kids are encouraged to be ‘history detectives’ as they tour the museum and enjoy kid friendly activities throughout the museum. Situated in Woodland Gardens Park, with walking trails, a duck pond and picnic area, there is plenty of free parking, and the museum is certified Senior Friendly.  We are looking forward to your visit!
