Looking for a truly relaxing place to get away from the busy day to day demands of work and family? Come to MacLeod Cottages in Green Bay, just moments along the coastline from Petite Riviere, Nova Scotia.

The unique geology and dramatic beauty of the Ovens Park has drawn a diverse group of people to this lovely destination year after year. People seem to find their own resonance and releases here at the home of Nova Scotia’s oldest legend (Indian Cave), here among the 150 year-old scars and implements of the 1861 gold rush, where the sea still echoes of vague references to rum-running (not so rare in this area) and Captain Kidd, and where the Cunard family laid claim to most our beach and then eventually removed it. Wow!

During our 75 years of camping experience, families have been drawn to the incredible beauty, diverse geography, fascinating history, and spiritual solace that make The Ovens Park so unique. The smell of campfires amid the historic setting takes one back to a simpler time, a welcome respite in a world that’s constantly changing. Our vintage campground is a delicate and natural environment and we are pleased to share it’s splendor with the public. We keep a close watch on the health of the park and the impact our activities have on it. Our decision to down scale to vintage type trailers or RVs under 30 feet in length will help in the preservation of the property.

Some of the highlights of the park season are the annual Chapin Music Festival, the unique sea caves, tours, petty zoo, gold panning on Cunard’s beach, the miner’s museum and nightly entertainment by the fire. Great place for the kids to explore and a playground with lots of equipment. Take a dip in the pool or in the ocean at Cunard Beach.

Admission charged. Stay for a while and rent a cabin or bring your camper/tent. The kids won’t want to leave!

The four Shobac Cottages, designed by internationally celebrated architect Brian MacKay-Lyons and newly renovated, are overlooking Hirtle’s Beach, Gaff Point and a stunning architecturescape.

Each of the four cottages offers an open second level loft with a queen bed and a bedroom with two twin beds on the main floor. Two additional overflow sleeping places exist on the living room raised plinth. Each unit has one bathroom with shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, cook-top, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker. The loft bedroom has a private deck with views of the land and sea. In addition, every cottage has a large deck off the living area facing the sea to the southwest. Cottages also include DVD/Television, telephone and wireless internet. One cottage is designed for persons with physical disabilities.

Of the four cottages, Hirtles has been recently upgraded to include a second bathroom in the loft which has a jacuzzi bathtub with a dramatic view of Hirtles Beach and out to sea. This fully insulated cottage will be available for rental year-round. The whole interior is also exquisitely finished in natural cedar.

Individual or multiple cottages can be rented on a weekly basis. The rates for these two bedroom cottages differ from high summer (July-August) to the shoulder seasons (May-June and September-October). The studio and the historic octagonal barn can be rented for events, and are ideal for arts workshops, weddings, equestrian vacations, family reunions, or corporate retreats. The entire site can also be rented offering the solitude of “a lost village at the end of the earth”.

The New-Found Guest House is located approximately 45 minutes from Halifax - Nova Scotia’s capital, 5 minutes from scenic Mahone Bay and 10 minutes from historic Lunenburg - home of the Bluenose.
