Blockhouse & Area
Blockhouse is a namesake for the many blockhouses that historically marked the area to protect the pioneers. Following the 1756 raid on Lunenburg, Governor Lawrence sought to protect the land by establishing blockhouses around the LaHave River, Mush-a-Mush (present day Mahone Bay) and at the Northwest Range (present day Blockhouse, Nova Scotia). Today, Blockhouse is home to the only Waldorf-focused School in the Atlantic provinces, the regional Visitor Information Centre, and lots of scenic trails. It is also home to an incredibly unique art maze, BernArt, which is sure to provide hours of fun and whimsy for the entire family.

Blue Rocks & Area
Blue Rocks is a picturesque community, aptly named for its interestingly coloured rocks nestled throughout its shores. Just a few minutes past Lunenburg, Blue Rocks offers authentic Nova Scotia charm and breathtaking views of the ocean. Historically a fishing village, there are still many multicoloured fishermen’s dwellings on its sea wharfs. A dream destination for artists and photographers alike, take a break from city life to enjoy what this quaint village has to offer. Grab a snack or have a picnic basket prepared at the local general store, then go out and enjoy some of the best sea kayaking Nova Scotia has to offer.
Dayspring & Area
Dayspring is a quiet, yet lovely community located on the banks of the LaHave River. Years ago, Dayspring was a busy spot. Boasting three shipyards and various stores, churches, farms and blacksmiths, Dayspring was a bustling community. Today, Dayspring holds on to much of that character. Come take a look at the traditional wooden Snyder’s Shipyard, famous for being the builders of the Theodore Too vessel.
As is true with all Nova Scotian communities, Dayspring also offers wonderful opportunities to become immersed in nature. Take a walk in Miller Peace Park or be an adventurer as you take your mountain bike up and down the tree-lined paths near the Municipal Activity and Recreation Complex.
New Germany & Area
New Germany offers a small-town feel with lots of activities and amenities. This unique town is split down the middle by the mighty LaHave River and connected by a rustic 20th century steel-made bridge and a newly added two-lane bridge. Speckled with home-style eateries and gift shops, New Germany makes a fantastic stopping place for the whole family. New Germany is also home to an abundance of natural amenities.
The 115 acre River Ridge Common features scenic trails and a natural playground that is certain to be a kid’s dream come true. Other outdoor activities in New Germany could include a stroll down the magnificent South Shore Annapolis Valley Trail or a stop at Indian Falls to see the crashing waterfalls.
Parkdale Maplewood & Area
Come visit Parkdale Maplewood for some old-time charm. These neighboring areas of Parkdale and Maplewood have combined to form an enchanting and tightly knit community. Parkdale Maplewood is home to the wonderful Parkdale Maplewood Museum full of rich natural and human history of the area. It features interesting artifacts as well as an expansive heritage garden, and there is even a museum scavenger hunt for the little ones.
In Parkdale Maplewood, there is also a rustic community hall. There, you can enjoy many community events like breakfasts, silent auctions or their annual Heritage Blueberry Festival. Come and see for yourself what these communities have to offer!
Petite Riviere & Area
Petite Riviere is as pretty as a picture! Located on the mouth of the river that gave this community its name, Petite Riviere is a quaint town that truly has something for everyone. Maritime Painted Saltbox is a unique art studio run by two fantastic local artists. From handmade furniture and contemporary fine art to whimsical folk art, this place is sure to satisfy your creative side. The tranquility of nature in Petite Riviere make it an artist or shutterbug’s dream. This area has various galleries, studios and shops for you to enjoy, so be sure to take the time to peruse through some antiques, behold some handmade creations, or stop for a coffee and pastry.
Petite Riviere is also home to the renown Petite Riviere Vineyard, whose rolling valleys and elegant stone patio is sure to take your breath away.
Riverport & Area
The town of Riverport is a perfect example of classic Nova Scotia charm. In this community, you can walk across the fisherman’s wharf to smell the fresh salty air or meander through the town to see some beautiful historic properties. Riverport is also home to some of the best outdoor activities Nova Scotia has to offer. Take a visit to Ovens Natural Park to see the incredible hidden sea caves on the shore, beachcomb for unique seashells, or to rent a campsite or rustic log cabin to have the full-on experience.
If you’re looking for another way to get some fresh air, Riverport is also known for the panoramic look-offs at Gaff Point, which is also known to have several ‘secret beaches’ for you and your family to discover. Hebbville & Area
Hebbville is named after the Hebb family, whose name is still prominent in the area today. Until about one hundred years ago, it was known as Hebbs Mills because of three mills owned by the Hebb family and powered by the water flowing out of Hebb Lake (now the Town of Bridgewater water supply) to Fancy Lake.The small commercial base of the village is based in farming and automobiles.
